Overview
Renovation for a collaborative environment reflecting a strong brand.
RSM, a prominent global advisory firm specialising in audit, tax, and consulting, embarked on a transformative journey by refurbishing and repurposing its Preston Office. The objective was clear: to foster a more collaborative environment for their 130-person team, promoting efficiency and effectiveness. This involved strategically consolidating from three floors to two, embracing hybrid working practices and optimising the office space for enhanced productivity.
The project commenced with a visit to RSM Preston in August, where we engaged with the client and teams through all design stages, from briefing to finishes. Collaboration was crucial for the client to be active in product and finish selections and ensure the final design aligned with their needs and preferences.

Solution
Customising the office space for diverse work activities.
A central aspect of the project was acoustics. To revolutionise the soundscape, the meeting rooms featured slab-to-slab partitions with a 45db rating and additional wall acoustic panels for enhanced sound absorption. The transformed breakout area provides a spacious socialising and event space perfectly tailored to match RSM’s employees’ vibrant and community-centric spirit.
With a commitment to achieving SKA GOLD accreditation, wellness and welfare points were embedded, and meticulously documented waste adhered to strict recycled content and recyclability criteria. Embracing innovation, the team reimagined furniture sustainability by repurposing existing items, swapping desktops on existing legs, and seamlessly blending new and old elements to minimise waste.

Key Features
Creating a vibrant social hub.
The creation of an open social space, which was thoughtfully designed to cater to diverse employee needs, played a pivotal role. Meeting booths for informal discussions, an array of seating options, and strategically placed high and low tables collectively fostered an inclusive environment suitable for all-day use.
A previously underutilised storage area and a small tea point were transformed into a contemporary, accessible space for all employees. The design prioritised functionality and efficiency, ensuring optimal utilisation by everyone.
Acknowledging the significance of employee wellbeing, the existing facilities underwent substantial upgrades. The restrooms received new flooring, floor-to-ceiling cubicles for enhanced privacy, and expanded facilities to accommodate business growth. Accessible toilets were refurbished, creating a fresh, inviting, and hygienic environment for all employees.
