Roku, a California-based streaming technology firm, invested in a new 24,000sq ft office in the city of Cardiff. The client’s brief included creating an inspiring technology hub that embodies its brand and encourages employee collaboration.

DENTON was tasked with Designing and Building a new space that is spacious, bold, contemporary, warm, and functional, catering to the needs of the employees while honouring the company’s brand and the local Welsh heritage.

To welcome clients into the space, DENTON installed bespoke feature graphic walls, a new reception desk, and bespoke shelving features that give the workspace a unique identity, showcasing their best sellers. The bold and bright reception area immediately catches the eye with its featured neon sign, reflecting the company’s slogan for a strong brand identity.

Considering the nature of the company’s business, the team wanted dedicated testing spaces and lab facilities on the ground floor for their streaming devices and Smart TVs.

The office features superior cycle, shower, changing, and lab facilities provided by the Landlord to add valuable amenities for staff to create a comfortable and convenient work environment. With a large open-plan office, smaller agile collaboration spaces were created with bespoke acoustic cascades to break up the main office environment and provide a respite space from the main desks.

Bespoke meeting booths offered additional features that allowed the team to have casual conversations in a semi-private space. The central cluster of working meeting rooms, training rooms, and VC rooms encourages collaboration and natural encounters between employees.

One of ROKU’s design requests was to showcase the company’s success and bring pride to its employees. DENTON incorporated locational links to Cardiff through the feature wall graphics around the office and bespoke name tags for the meeting rooms to achieve this. Characters from films, programs, and series filmed in Cardiff, such as Gavin and Stacey, Harry Potter, and Fireman Sam, were used for the meeting room names and bold graphics of Cardiff buildings in the office.
