FAQs
What are my procurement options?
Traditional procurement and design & build procurement are two different approaches to managing construction projects.
Both procurement systems are capable of delivering excellent results, and ultimately it comes down to the expertise and competence of the team that is appointed.
In traditional procurement, the client contracts with a design team to prepare detailed drawings and specifications. Once the design is complete, the client then puts the project out to tender, inviting bids from contractors to build the project based on the design. The client then selects a contractor based on their tender price and their ability to deliver the project according to the design.
On the other hand, design & build procurement involves the client contracting with a single entity, typically a design and build contractor, who is responsible for both the design and construction of the project. The contractor works with the client to develop a design that meets their requirements and budget, and then delivers the completed project according to the agreed-upon specifications.
Design & build procurement can be more efficient and cost-effective, as the contractor is responsible for both the design and construction, which can lead to fewer communication issues and potential conflicts between the design and construction teams.
